Definition: “Existentialism is a philosophy that emphasizes individual existence, freedom and choice. It is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. It focuses on the question of human existence, and the feeling that there is no purpose or explanation at the core of existence. It holds that, as there is no God or any other transcendent force, the only way to counter this nothingness (and hence to find meaning in life) is by embracing existence.“ 12

Question: Aren’t existentialists atheists?

God’s answer:

Why do we need God?
They are borderline cases. That is why they are skeptics.
Meaning: “Existentialism can be atheistic, theological (or theistic) or agnostic. Some Existentialists, like Nietzsche, proclaimed that "God is dead" and that the concept of God is obsolete. Others, like Kierkegaard, were intensely religious, even if they did not feel able to justify it. The important factor for Existentialists is the freedom of choice to believe or not to believe.” 13
2. They don’t want to believe
Anarchists: They are their own authority. They don’t want to believe lest they be judged.
Definition: “Anarchy is the condition of a society, entity, group of people or a single person which does not recognize authority.” 14

3. They can’t believe
Agnostics: God is thought-up. God must be proven. They rely on empirical data.

Definition: An Agnostic is “a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God.”15

4. They doubt what they believe
Doubting Thomases: Everything has a logical explanation. They talk themselves out of believing. I never win.

Definition: “A doubting Thomas is a skeptic who refuses to believe without direct personal experience—a reference to the Apostle Thomas, who refused to believe that the resurrected Jesus had appeared to the ten other apostles, until he could see and feel the wounds received by Jesus on the cross.” 16

Question: You mean You never win because no matter what you do, they will always try to find some “logical explanation”?

God’s answer:

They always need to be convinced.
